Foot Reflexology is a relaxing and rejuvenating wellness treatment that uses specialised compression techniques applied to reflex points on the feet, hands, ears and face. These points relate to certain parts, organs and glands of the body which when stimulated, trigger that part of the body and help restore balance, reduce stress, relieve tension and promote self-healing.
Following illness, stress, injury or disease, the body is in a state of "imbalance", and vital energy pathways are blocked, preventing the body from functioning effectively. Reflexology can be used to restore and maintain the body's natural equilibrium and to encourage healing.
Reflexology improves blood and lymph circulation, increases nerve supply to the cells and releases toxins from the body's tissues. It is believed to encourage the release of endorphins, the body's natural feel-good hormones, which are well documented in their ability to relieve stress.
A foot massage is different from reflexology. It involves applying pressure to relieve soft tissues on and around the feet to provide relief from soreness and discomfort but it is far less complex. Reflexology by contrast, doesn't solely benefit the feet but stimulates the energy channels which wind throughout the body and that connect the feet to internal organs, glands, bones, and body systems. Reflexology can benefit the entire body!Add an answer to this item.
On your first visit a medical history will be taken; questions regarding medical background, current health, nutrition and lifestyle will be asked. Next, after removing your shoes and socks you will receive a wonderful hot-towel foot cleanse. The treatment then takes place on a comfortable massage bed and will consist of a variety of techniques applied to the reflex points over your feet and ankles. This will be performed with the application of an organic reflexology balm of your choice. I use a luxurious, organic balm handmade by Flying Wild, a small, rural business in Ireland, who produce award-winning skincare ranges (and who promise to plant a tree for every order).
During a foot reflexology treatment clients occasionally report some tender areas and if this is the case then pressure is reduced. Individual reactions to reflexology vary greatly but the great majority of clients thoroughly enjoy their experience and find that it helps them to reduce stress, tension and anxiety. To end the session and wind down I kindly ask clients to take 3 deep breaths.
Lastly, to gain the most from your reflexology treatment it is advisable to relax and drink plenty of water after your treatment.
Reflexology can help restore the body’s natural balance, promote self-healing and while it works differently on each individual it is can help:
